The form inside the green vessel dipped its open bottom in water when it was still in a hot, elastic state, hoping to use the resulting steam to drive its expansion. But while the form did expand somewhat, the stress caused from the hot glass form coming in contact with water caused severe cracking, and it nearly destroyed itself.
